The western hockey league was made in 1966. There were a lot of teams in the western hockey league some of them you may have heard of. WHL as it is called is a type of step down from the NHL if you want to get to the NHL going to the WHL is where you want to go. The players from the WHL are usually quite young when they start at 16 and up they usually then have till there 18 to show that there a good player and if they don't then there gone and sometimes if you're good enough you go to the NHL.
